About me

My name is Melissa Foster and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an Art Therapist. I started Foster Creative Therapy to help clients create healthier patterns in life, deal more effectively with transitions, and improve relationships.

For more than 8 years, I have been using art therapy to help people with a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, abuse, grief, and increasing self-esteem.

I have experience working with all age groups and diverse cultures. I believe that effective therapy starts with a safe and trusting relationship between the therapist and client.

My approach is warm, respectful and caring. I try to create a supportive, therapeutic and safe environment for expression by offering my clients guidance, insight, humor, and compassion.

I work from a Humanistic/Existential framework and I use a variety of tools from Narrative, Family systems, Cognitive-Behavioral, and Psychodynamic therapies. I have training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an approach I use with couples. I am also training in EMDR. I offer both short and long-term counseling.
